0.05 Molar EDTA Solution Preparations and Standardization
0.05 Molar EDTA Solution Preparations
¨ To prepare 0.05 molar Edetate disodium
solution accurately weigh 18.6 gram Edetate disodium and dissolve in sufficient
carbon-dioxide free water.
¨ Make the final volume up to 1000 ml with
carbon-dioxide free water.
¨ Formula used
¨ Mass in gram= Molarity x molecular weight
x required volume
1000
¨ Mass in gram = 0.05 x 372.24 x 1000 = 18.6 g
1000
Standardization of 0.05 molar EDTA solution
¨ Accurately weight about 200mg calcium
carbonate.
¨ Dried at 110◦C for 2 hours in an oven and
then cooled in desiccator.
¨ Transfer it into a conical flask of about 500
ml and add 10 ml of carbon-dioxide free gently with constant stirring to form
slurry.
¨ Add 2 ml of dilute HCl with proper shaking to
dissolve calcium carbonate.
¨ Further add 100 ml of carbon-dioxide free
water with constant stirring using magnetic stirrer.
¨ Now add 30 ml 0.05 Molar EDTA solution
(freshly prepared) with the help of burette gently.
¨ Add 15 ml of sodium hydroxide TS.
¨ Further add 300 mg of Hydroxy Naphthol blue
indicator.
¨ Titrate with 0.05 Molar Edetate disodium
solution and find the molarity as follow
¨ Molarity
= weight of calcium
carbonate x 1000
Molecular weight
of Calcium carbonate x volume used of 0.05 M EDTA
¨ Molarity
= weight of CaCO3 x 1000
100.09 x Volume used of 0.05M EDTA solution
