0.1 Molar EDTA Solution Preparations and Standardization

0.1   Molar EDTA Solution Preparations and Standardization

0.1   Molar EDTA Solution Preparation

1         To prepare 0.1 molar Edetate disodium solution accurately weigh 37.2 gram Edetate disodium and dissolve in sufficient carbon-dioxide free water.

2         Make the volume up to 1000 ml with carbon-dioxide free water.

3         Formula used

4         Mass in gram= Molarity x molecular weight x required volume

                                                             1000

       Mass in gram = 0.1 x 372.24 x 1000     = 37.22 g

                                                1000

Standardization of 0.1 molar EDTA Solution

¨  Accurately weight about 400mg calcium carbonate.

¨  Dried at 110◦C for 2 hours in an oven and then cooled in desiccator.

¨  Transfer it into a conical flask of about 500 ml and add 10 ml of carbon-dioxide free gently with constant stirring to form slurry.

¨  Add 2 ml of dilute HCl with proper shaking to dissolve calcium carbonate.

¨  Further add 100 ml of carbon-dioxide free water with constant stirring using magnetic stirrer.

¨  Now add 30 ml 0.1 Molar EDTA solution (freshly prepared) with the help of burette gently.

¨  Add 15 ml of sodium hydroxide TS.

¨  Further add 300 mg of Hydroxy Naphthol blue indicator.

¨  Titrate with 0.1 Molar Edetate disodium solution and find the molarity as follow

¨  Molarity      =        weight of calcium carbonate x 1000

Molecular weight of Calcium carbonate x volume used of 0.1 M EDTA

¨  Molarity      =       weight of CaCO3 x 1000

                          100.09 x Volume used of 0.1 M EDTA solution
