¨ Maceration
is a term used for Soaking or drench.
¨ It
is an extraction procedure in which the whole or coarsely powdered crude drug
is placed in a stopper container containing solvent.
¨ Maceration
is carried out at room temperature.
¨ Crude
drug is allowed to stand for minimum of three days in container.
¨ Container
is frequently agitated so that the soluble material should dissolve properly.
¨ The
mixture is then strained properly and the marc is pressed efficiently so that
more quantity of liquid is collected
out.
¨ Leave
the liquid standing for sometime so that the un dissolved residue settle down
and then it would be clarified by
filtration or decantation.
¨ This
method is mostly applied for the extraction of thermolabile drugs.
