Techniques of Extraction
Infusion
In
Infusion technique extraction of drug is carried out from powder crude drug by
using hot or cold water.
Powdered
crude drug will be soaked in hot or cold water for specified time period.
Stirring
may or not be involved.
After
specified filtration is carried out.
After
filtration the marc will be pressed so that remaining solvent comes out.
Extraction
is carried out again with the help of fresh hot or lukewarm water.
Decoction
In
decoction concentration is carried out by boiling.
Powdered
or whole crude drug is boiled with water as a solvent.
Boiling
would be continued for minutes to hours depending upon the drug to be
extracted.
After
the completion of specified time filtration is carried out.
Decoction
technique of extraction for the drugs that are
water soluble.
Similarly
the drug must also be stable upon exposure to high temperature for long period
of time.
