Fractional Liberation
Fractional Liberation
Fractional
liberation is a technique in which the
compounds or chemicals are separated from a mixture by the formation of
precipitate.
The
separation is carried out by changing the compounds the compounds into their
salt form.
Purification
of cinnamon alkaloid is usually carried out using this technique.
When
a mixture of alkaloid salt is treated with an alkali it 1st form a
weak base in its free state which is followed by base liberation.
This
liberation process occur in ascending order of basicity.
By
shaking the mixture with organic solvent after every addition a series of bases
fractions are obtained.
Similarly
for the liberation of organic acid present in water immiscible solvent same
pattern is used.
In
this case a mixture of acid salt is will be treated with mineral acid to
fractionally liberate acids.
